August 09, (THEWILL) – The United States clinched gold in the Olympic women’s 4×100 metres relay on Friday, marking their 12th victory in this event. The win came after Britain encountered difficulties with their final baton exchange.
Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Paris Olympic 200m champion Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson comprised the American team. They completed the race in 41.78 seconds, executing smooth baton transfers throughout.
Britain led the US for the first three legs but faced challenges in the final exchange. Amy Hunt struggled to pass the baton to Daryll Neita amid heavy rain at Stade de France. Despite losing momentum, Neita managed to claim silver for Britain with a time of 41.85 seconds. Germany took bronze, clocking 41.97 seconds.
This victory reaffirms the United States’ dominance in the event, where they have now won 12 Olympic titles. However, it marks a comeback after their loss to Jamaica in the Tokyo Games.
The 2024 Paris Olympics have seen the US team return to form in this event, demonstrating their ability to perform under pressure and in challenging weather conditions.
