August 06, (THEWILL) – US Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, has named Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, as her running mate ahead of the November election.
This comes two weeks after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.
Walz was part of a deep bench of potential running mates that included Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
He first ran for office in 2006 in a Republican-leaning congressional district, upsetting the incumbent. He kept the seat until he won the Minnesota governorship in 2018, and again in 2022.
Before he entered public office, he was a school teacher in Mankato, Minnesota, teaching geography to high school students. He also served in the Army National Guard for 24 years.
