July 08, (THEWILL) – It is now clear that English Premier League club, Manchester United, will be without their Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, when they travel on their preseason tour.
United agreed to give Ronaldo time off for “personal reasons” and this has kept the 37-year-old away from reporting for preseason. Now, he has been given an extended leave that will see him miss the start of the trip to Bangkok on Friday.
As THEWILL reported, Ronaldo turned in a request to leave Old Trafford this summer if a reasonable offer came for him. Though the new technical bench at Old Trafford had Ronaldo in the plans for the next season, in the coming weeks, Chelsea is expected to officially confirm their interest in the Portuguese.
On Monday, it was confirmed that United were prepared to let Ronaldo leave this summer with the mindset that the striker’s career might be better served somewhere else, like at Stamford Bridge, for instance.
United is expected to price Ronaldo at a modest £15 million, but his wages of about £400,000 per week could deter suitors. However, Mendes revealed that Ronaldo will accept a pay cut. Todd Boehly therefore wants to seize the opportunity to sign one of the biggest names in sports especially as Thomas Tuchel is tweaking their attacking options.
