January 31, (THEWILL) – Union Berlin was poised to sign former Real Madrid attacking midfielder, Isco, but the move collapsed on transfer deadline day.
Isco had already completed a medical and was ready to sign with the second-placed team in the Bundesliga. However, the transfer broke down just hours before the deadline, with both parties blaming the other for the failure of the deal.
Union Sporting Director, Oliver Ruhnert, stated that the club had its limits and those limits were exceeded, despite the previous agreement. Isco’s management company, Gestifute, said they realised the negotiating partner was no longer willing to move within the framework as originally discussed.

Isco had been released by Sevilla in December after only four months at the club and was looking for a new challenge in Berlin. Union has won its three Bundesliga games since the World Cup and winter break, and they face Wolfsburg in a DFB-Pokal game on Tuesday.
Isco started his career with Valencia and Malaga before spending nine years with Madrid, leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last season.
