UNCHR Pledges Support To Benue Govt In Resettling IDPs

July 03, (THEWILL) – The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has pledged its support to the Benue State Government in resettling the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Ms. Irene Omondi, Head of Sub-Office, UNHCR, Ogoja, disclosed this when she led a delegation from the UNHCR on a courtesy visit to the Benue State Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, at Government House, Makurdi.

The team discussed key issues affecting refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state as well as other critical issues.

Omondi acknowledged the State Government’s efforts in providing an enabling environment for the UN agencies working in the state and sought to strengthen collaboration to ensure more effective support for those affected by conflicts and natural disasters.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, on his part, commended the UNHCR for its continued support to the state and pledged the commitment of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia’s administration to work closely with the agency to address the challenges faced by refugees and IDPs in Benue State.
