August 29, (THEWILL) – UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin, has presented Cristiano Ronaldo with a special award honouring his incredible achievements in the UEFA Champions League. The Portuguese striker holds numerous records in the competition, including being the all-time top scorer with 140 goals in 183 appearances.
Ronaldo’s goal tally puts him 11 ahead of Lionel Messi and 46 clear of Robert Lewandowski. He has finished as the Champions League’s top scorer in seven different seasons, more than any other player. His most prolific campaign came in 2013/2014 when he netted 17 times, helping Real Madrid to victory.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward has won the UCL five times, making him the first player to achieve this feat since the competition’s rebranding in 1992. He has scored in three separate finals and holds the record for the longest scoring streak, finding the net in 11 consecutive matches between 2017 and 2018.
Čeferin praised Ronaldo’s “extraordinary goalscoring achievements” and “sustained excellence at the highest level”. He noted that Ronaldo’s records “seem destined to stand the test of time” and praised the player’s professionalism, work ethic, and dedication as qualities for others to emulate.
Beyond his UCL exploits, Ronaldo is also the leading scorer in all UEFA club competitions with 145 goals. He holds the record for most goals in men’s international football, having scored 130 times in 212 appearances for Portugal.
