May 31, (THEWILL) – Argentina U-20 goalkeeper, Federico Gomes Gerth, is bracing himself for a challenging encounter as the six-time world champions prepare to face the Flying Eagles at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup.
In the round of 16 clash at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, San Juan on Wednesday night, Ladan Bosso’s charges will hope to knock the hosts out of the tournament, an outcome that the goalkeeper will be hoping against.
Regarded as one of the rising stars in the sport, Gerth had the opportunity to train with the likes of Lionel Messi, Emiliano Martínez, and Enzo Fernández during the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The young goalkeeper, however, dismissed any notions of Argentina being considered the favourites in the upcoming game against Nigeria, instead highlighting the strengths of the squad.
Gerth, a vital member of the Argentine squad, has starred in all the group stage matches, conceding only one goal, courtesy of Uzbekistan’s Makhmud Makhamadzhonov. In an interview before the game, Gerth commented on the Nigerian team, stating: “We have analysed their gameplay through videos, and it is evident that they are a physically strong and well-organised team. Nonetheless, we will approach the match with the same style we have been playing, giving our best effort.”
The referee for the Argentina versus Nigeria clash will be Swedish official Glenn Nyberg, with Mahbod Beigei and Andreas Soderkvist serving as his assistants on the sidelines. The match kicks off at 10pm Nigerian time.
