Two Super Eagles Players Leave Camp Ahead of Friendly Clash Against Tunisia

SAN FRANCISCO, October 13, (THEWILL) – A pair of key Super Eagles players have been permitted to leave the team’s camp in Austria before they are billed to play Tunisia in an international friendly on Tuesday, October 13.

One of the players is defender for EFL Championship side Watford, William Troost-Ekong. Watford signed the Nigerian in September from Italian club Udinese on a five-year contract. The 27-year-old centre-back was born in the Netherlands, where he began his career with Groningen. He joined Udinese in 2018 and his move to Watford was the latest in a series of summer deals between the two clubs, which are owned by the Pozzo family.

According to Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, “… Troost-Ekong was permitted to go because he just joined a new club, and they’ve a game on Friday, so they want him to train with his team ahead of the game.”

About the second player who left camp, Samuel Kalu, Ibitoye said, “Kalu was allowed to leave the camp and return to his club because of the knock he got in the game against Algeria.”

The versatile Kalu, winger for Ligue 1 club Bordeaux, was unfortunately withdrawn early in that loss against Algeria having sustained an injury but he combined well with Zaidu Sanusi in the first 45. He had one overly zealous effort go way over the crossbar and another comfortably saved.

It was Ibitoye’s contention that “… with these two players out, we’ll have the chance to see new players for the game.”

THEWILL hopes those who take their places give a good account of themselves and the performance of the entire team improves so that they can chalk up their first win of 2020.

The kick-off time for the Nigeria vs Tunisia match is 7:30 PM, local time.
