Two Arrested For Assaulting Official At Lagos Airport

June 29, (THEWILL) – A passenger, Ayemobola Mojadesola and her mother have been arrested for assaulting an official at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said Mojadesola and her mother were arrested by the Aviation Security Service (AVSEC) and were handed over to the Police after they attacked the official, causing facial injuries and destroying two laptops in the process.

According to Achimugu, “Because she was asked to return a borrowed pen, a passenger named Ayemobola Mojadesola (born 1995) and her mother attacked an airport official, causing facial injuries and destroying two laptops in the process.

“She was arrested by the Aviation Security Service (AVSEC) and had to buy replacement laptops and offered fifty thousand naira cash for medical treatment of the injured staff.”

Achimugu said the airline offloaded the passenger for unruly behaviour and was taken by AVSEC to Tango City before being handed over to the Police.

“I must reiterate that unruly behaviour and destruction of airport equipment will not be tolerated. Aviation equipment and staffers are there to facilitate safe and secure travel. They are not punching bags,” he added.

Achimugu, who urged aggrieved passengers to always seek the assistance of the NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminals, said they are there to help passengers at the Airport whenever they need assistance.

“Always refer to them if you are not satisfied with the service rendered by operators,” he advised.

He added that its regulations clearly state the repercussions for unruly passenger behaviour and continue to speak strongly against it.

He warned that severe action will be taken against unruly passengers going forward.
