September 11, (THEWILL) – Veteran Journalist and Publisher of Tunes Magazine, Ambassador Olatunde Oladunjoye, has announced plans to support families of late journalists in Ogun State with a startup fund of N1 million to cater for their needs in the face of economic hardship.

This was just as he announced a drug revolving scheme starting with N250,000, where he would partner with professionals in the medical industry, especially those in pharmaceuticals, to allow ailing journalists to buy expensive drugs at a low rate.

Oladunjoye stated this on Tuesday, when the management of Boseri, an Online Yoruba Newspaper, published by Johnson Akinpelu, visited his office at Leme, Abeokuta, to bestow an award on him as the “Opomulero Akoroyin”.

He said even though the journalists were late and could not perform their roles as breadwinners of their families, their widows and children should not be neglected by members of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in supporting them whenever the need arises.

The politician said the sum of N1 million (N100,000 each) to ten different families of late journalists in the state would go a long way to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on them.

“We need to assist families of journalists in the state who are late. I will give out one million to ten families of the journalists who are dead. One hundred thousand naira for each of them,” he said.

On the drugs scheme, he explained the N250,000 as a fund for take-off on the drugs scheme for ailing journalists to procure expensive drugs at low rates, saying as more money comes, the media practitioners would benefit more from the scheme.

“I want to create a drug-revolving scheme. Our colleagues need drugs. We will have to add a doctor to the committee. We need pharmacies where colleagues can buy drugs. I am paying back to the profession that made me. Whatever I can give back to the profession will not be too much,” he added

Earlier, the Publisher of Boseri, Johnson Akinpelu, described the recipient as a selfless and reliable personality who always extends his hand of fellowship not only to journalists but to whoever his path crosses with.

He opined that the awardee is worthy of the honour and many that had been conferred on him based on the impactful contributions and indelible marks he has made and still making in the profession and to humanity.
