March 18, (THEWILL) – Lazio has appointed Croatian tactician Igor Tudor as their new head coach following the resignation of Maurizio Sarri. The Serie A club confirmed the appointment on Monday, with Tudor signing an 18-month contract to take charge of the Rome-based outfit.
The 45-year-old Tudor joins Lazio after a stint with French side Olympique de Marseille, where he led them to a third-place finish last season before departing in June 2023. No stranger to Italian football, Tudor has previous experience managing Serie A teams Udinese and Verona.
As a player, Tudor enjoyed a successful career as a defensive midfielder, notably representing Juventus in Serie A between 1998 and 2007. His appointment at Lazio marks a return to the Italian top flight after his recent coaching exploits in France.
Lazio parted ways with Sarri on March 13, with assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello taking temporary charge for the club’s 3-2 win at Frosinone over the weekend. The Biancocelesti currently sit ninth in the Serie A standings, four points adrift of the European qualification spots.
