January 18, (THEWILL) – After a fantastic season at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has been named the Best FIFA Men’s Coach for 2021. The German strategist won the accolade over rival Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Italy manager Roberto Mancini.
Tuchel was selected the winner in part because Chelsea won the Champions League at the end of the 2020/2021 season, defeating Guardiola’s City in an all-English final in Porto.
Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge with the club’s top-four status in jeopardy, but he immediately improved the team, and Chelsea soon established itself as a defensive force.
The Blues finished in the top four of the Premier League, and Tuchel won the Champions League after losing in the final with PSG the year before.
Chelsea has had to deal with a number of injuries and COVID-related absences recently, and things have not been looking good results-wise. They are now 13 points behind Man City in the Premier League title chase, despite reaching the Carabao Cup final.
