October 15, (THEWILL) – Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new England manager, according to reports monitored by THEWILL. The German tactician is set to become the third non-English manager to lead the Three Lions, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Tuchel, who guided Chelsea to UEFA Champions League glory in 2021, will take over from interim manager Lee Carsley. This appointment comes three months after Gareth Southgate stepped down following England’s defeat to Spain in the European Championship final in July 2024.

The 51-year-old coach has been out of work since parting ways with Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the previous season. Bayern finished third in the Bundesliga, behind champions Bayer Leverkusen and runners-up VfB Stuttgart. The England Football Association has scheduled a press conference at Wembley on Wednesday, where chief executive Mark Bullingham is expected to make an official announcement.

Tuchel built his reputation as an innovative tactician in the Bundesliga, initially taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Mainz 05 in 2009. He later succeeded Klopp at Borussia Dortmund in 2015, leading the team to German Cup success in 2017. His subsequent tenure at Paris Saint-Germain saw him win consecutive Ligue 1 titles and reach the UCL final in 2020.

The German manager now faces the challenge of ending England’s 58-year trophy drought. His primary goal will be to lead the Three Lions to their first major tournament victory since the 1966 World Cup triumph on home soil. Tuchel’s tactical acumen and experience in managing top-tier clubs will be crucial as he takes on this new role with the national team.
