February 09, (THE WILL) – Yves Bissouma is facing a difficult spell on the sidelines after Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that he will require surgery on his ankle.

The Mali international joined the English Premier League club in a reported £25 million deal from Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of the season and has played in 25 of Tottenham’s 31 matches, starting 10. However, his playing time will now be cut short as he is ruled out indefinitely.

The club’s statement confirmed that Bissouma will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a stress fracture in his left ankle. The timeline for his return to training will be determined after the surgery and the midfielder will begin rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff as soon as possible.

The news of Bissouma’s lay-off comes on the same day that Tottenham goalkeeper and captain, Hugo Lloris, was ruled out for 6 to 8 weeks with a knee injury. Despite these setbacks, Tottenham received some good news as head coach, Antonio Conte, returned to work on Thursday. Conte had undergone surgery last week to remove his gallbladder, but was able to return to work just over a week later.

The team has been performing well in Conte’s absence, defeating Manchester City last weekend to move within a point of fourth-place Newcastle United, who have a game in hand. Spurs will travel to Leicester for their next EPL outing on Saturday and then head to Milan for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.
