Tor Tiv Tasks BSIEC On Transparent, Credible Council Polls

September 06, (THEWILL) – The Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse, has urged the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible council elections on October 5, 2024.

Playing host to the leadership of BSIEC at his palace in Gboko, the Tor Tiv noted that with the Supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy, when people of substance are elected, there will be development at the grassroots.

Saying all votes must count, Prof. Ayatse, who is the Chairman of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, pledged to mobilise his subjects towards participating in the election peacefully so as to achieve the set objective.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Commission, Barr. Richard Tombuwua, informed the Tor Tiv that he has come to seek royal blessings in order to succeed in the task of conducting credible council polls in the state.

While intimating the royal father of activities that will lead to the election, Barr. Tombuwua appealed to the Tor Tiv to educate his subjects against violence and urged them to come out to vote for candidates of their choice into the third tier of government.

According to him, the approval of over N6 billion by the Benue State House of Assembly for the conduct of the council polls is a welcome development in the electoral process.

The BSIEC Chairman, therefore, commended Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration and the 10th Benue Assembly the commitment, assuring of the Commission’s determination to deliver credible polls.
