Tor Tiv Decry Disunity, Death Rate In Tiv Land

August 21, (THEWILL) – The Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ayatse, has decried the frequent death rate in Tiv land, especially the traditional rulers like the Tor Jechira, Chief Clement Uganden.

He said the Ter Katsina-Ala, Chief Fezaanga Wombo, was buried and within six months, the Tor Sankera, HRH Chief Abu King Shuluwa died.

Represented at the burial of Tor Jechira HRaH, Chief Ambrose Iortyer, at the burial of Tor Jechira in Vandeikya on Wednesday, decried the untimely death of Tor Jechira, which has befallen Jechira land, decrying disunity in Tiv land.

He said God would punish the Tiv people if the Tiv people continued to deny the girl-child inheritance of their father.

He called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to take special note of a threat by one of the persons that if his brother is not made Council Chairman in the forthcoming polls, there will be bloodshed.

He thanked the governor for purposeful leadership in the state and sued for sustenance such that people would vote for him subsequently in future elections.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Dennis Akura, described the late Tor Jechira as a man of peace.

He called on the next Tor Jechira to emulate the virtues that Chief Uganden left behind, calling on traditional rulers to assist in mobilising their subjects to assist the governor in overcoming insecurity in the state.

The President of Kunav United Development Association (KUDA), Deacon Tor Yaji, also said the late Tor Jechira was a man of peace who encouraged his subjects to take their destiny into their hands, hence the election of governor Hyacinth Alia as governor of Benue State from Jechira block.

He acknowledged the star hotel in Vandeikya town which generated employment opportunities for people of the area.

On his part, the president General of Mdzough -U- Tiv, Controller of Prisons, Iorbee Ihyagh, commended Governor Alia for good roads, underpasses, electricity projects, and buses, among other projects.

Call on Tiv people to wake up for peace, unity and progress, emphasising that unity is paramount as division would cause a downfall in Tiv land.

In a welcome speech, the Acting Tor Jechira and Ter Kunav, Chief Nyiyongu Achiaku, said the late Clement Uganden wanted to see that thatched houses are out from Jechira land.

He decried the untimely death of Uganden and thanked all for sustaining peace in Kunav and Jechira land and calling for sustenance.

He cautions the people of the area against political violence for development to thrive.
