August 22, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, congratulated Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on his retirement as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), after a successful public service career.
Justice Ariwoola, who turned 70, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, was Sworn in as substantive CJN in October 2022, after his confirmation by the Senate, following his appointment by former President, Muhammadu Buhari, in June 2022. He was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2011. Before then, Ariwoola was a Justice of the Court of Appeal between 2005 and 2011, after having been elevated from the State High Court of Oyo State.
President Tinubu in a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, commended the eminent jurist for his services to the nation, noting his impactful leadership of the judiciary and his efforts in enriching Nigerian jurisprudence, as well as in strengthening the fibre of the law.
The President thanks Justice Ariwoola and wishes him the very best for the future.
THEWILL had reported that the National Judicial Council (NJC), recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Tinubu, for appointment as the new CJN.
President Tinubu will swear in Justice Ariwoola’s successor at the State House Council Chambers on August 23, 2024.
