June 21, (THEWILL) – Heightened tension has enveloped Kano as security operatives blocked all entrances to the Nasarawa mini Palace, the current residence of the deposed 15th emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

THEWILL reports that all major routes leading to the palace have been blocked by security personnel.

The development may not be unconnected to moves by the Kano State Government to evict Bayero from the Palace.

A Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice A. M. Liman, on Thursday, nullified all steps taken by the State Government sequel to the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir by the Kano State Government.

While the State Government, through its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, on Thursday night, maintained that Emir Sanusi Muhammad II remains the Emir of Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf ordered the Commissioner of Police to evict Bayero from the Nasarawa mini palace ahead of a scheduled immediate demolition of the facility.

Despite the directive, Bayero remains in the mini palace in the company of his guards and supporters.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, said the Governor’s directive to evict Emir Bayero from the Palace can not be effected.

Gumel explained that complying with the eviction order would be premature, as the State Government had filed a case at Kano State High Court regarding the matter and the hearing was scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024.

He emphasised that executing the eviction order would be like “jumping the gun,” as the outcome of the court case was still pending.

“The police will not evict Aminu Ado Bayero because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” Gume said.
