March 12, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag has criticised the refereeing decisions made by Anthony Taylor during Manchester United’s recent 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils had to play with 10 men for the majority of the game after Casemiro was shown his second straight red card in three English Premier League appearances for a high challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. This means that the star midfielder will miss the club’s next four domestic games.
Ten Hag expressed his disappointment at a seemingly obvious handball by Armel Bella-Kotchap in Southampton’s penalty area that went unpunished during the first half. “Oh definitely [the penalty should’ve been awarded]. There is no doubt. I don’t understand why the VAR is not interrupting because they did previously,” he said in a post-match interview.
The Dutchman also pointed out that prior to playing in the Premier League, Casemiro had never received a straight red card in over 500 games in Europe. “And now, in 20 games in the Premier League, he has 2 red cards. We will deal with [his suspension for four games]. The issue is that this game was influenced by the referee”, Ten Hag added.
