July 31, (THEWILL) – An unnecessary trifle is disrupting Team Nigeria’s camp at the Paris 2024 Olympics, as the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Ministry of Sports, engage in a dispute over approved kits.
Two different sets of kits are reportedly being distributed to Nigerian athletes, one from the NOC and the other from the Ministry of Sports. The issue came to light when it was discovered that the NOC had signed a kitting agreement with a supplier without informing the Ministry.
Typically, there are two types of kits: a general one for non-competition times and a competition kit, the latter being the prerogative of each sports federation. A source from the Ministry disclosed that the NOC kept their kitting agreement away from the Ministry, leading to the existence of two sets of kits because the Ministry had to bring theirs.
There is now an issue over which of the two will be used. On Monday, a meeting was convened by the Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, in an attempt to resolve the issue.
As the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics continue, efforts are being made to resolve the kit controversy and ensure that Team Nigeria athletes can focus on their events.
