September 21, (THEWILL) – Robert Taylor scored and assisted to help Miami clinch a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer action on Wednesday evening, overwhelming their opponents with an excellent attacking display.
At their home grounds of the DRV PNK Stadium, Inter Miami grew into the game and took the lead just before half-time to tame the energetic start from Toronto. Facundo Farias capitalised on a defensive error to slot home and give the hosts a 1-0 advantage going into the interval.
Any hopes of a Toronto comeback were dashed right after the break, as Taylor doubled Miami’s lead with a composed right-footed finish. Incidentally, Taylor was a 37th-minute replacement for Lionel Messi and he did not disappoint. The goals kept flowing for the rampant Herons, with substitute Benjamin Cremaschi adding a third after beating the Toronto defence down the right, helped by a Taylor assist.
Taylor then rounded off the scoring in stunning fashion, volleying home to complete the rout with three minutes of regulation time left. It was a dominant attacking performance from Miami, who climbed up the Eastern Conference standings with the crucial three points.
The result leaves Toronto struggling near the foot of the table. Miami will look to build on this performance as they push for a playoff place in the closing weeks of the regular season. However, injuries to star players Messi and Jordi Alba, who were substituted in the first half, will be a source of worry.
