August 17, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged Nigerian kegite youth to take leadership role in nation building of the current administration of President Bola Tinubu to make Nigeria a better nation.
He disclosed this on Saturday, at the 2024 Annual Mega Gyration, organised by De Kegite Club Ogun Hemisphere, in conjunction with Kegite Club of Eko Hemisphere, held at the June 12 Culture Center, Abeokuta, the state capital.
At the event, the Guest Speaker, Prof. Oladiipo Ajiboye of the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, spoke on the theme: African Culture, Youth and National Development: “Kegites Club As An Example”.
Abiodun, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Olusesan Fagbayi, urged the Kegite youth, apart from their creative cultural songs and dance, to embrace developmental programme of Tinubu’s government and tap into potentials capable of turning the country around and move her to a greater height.
The governor maintained that the state was always committed to support and empower the youth to achieve the dreams insisting that the 2024 Annual Mega Gyrations emphasised the role the Kegite youth played in shaping the future of Nigeria.
He said, “As we celebrate this 2024 annual Mega Gyrations it is pertinent for me to emphasise the critical role Nigeria Youth Play in Shaping our Nation future. Our Young people are the driving force behind innovation, creativity and progress.
“They are the leaders entrepreneur and change makers who will propel Nigeria to greatness. I urge you all Nigeria youth to embrace their power and take ownership role in nation building, developmental programme of the current administration let by his Excellency Bola Armed Tinubu.
“As we move to the future filled with hope and optimistic that Nigeria will be great, I believe in the potential of Nigeria’s youth to transform the country and make it a better place for us to live and enjoy. Ogun State governments is committed to support, encourage and empower youth to achieve their dreams and attain greater heights of their heart desires. Together we can build Ogun State to our dreams and a nation that is just, equitable and prosperous for generations to come”, he added.
Ajiboye, however, in his lecture, said that the Kegit’s club cultural songs and dances was a symbol the virtue for unity to foster development of the nation because of its unity in diversity of social culture hence members could take leadership roles including being a politician and succeed.
“There is need for proper discipline for members to take roles of leadership like the politicians and virtue of unity for the development of the nation. As a social club it has a vital role to play in social development. Through their songs they promote various local or traditional songs especially Yoruba songs during Gyrations which promote Yoruba culture and culture of others in the country”, he noted
Speaking, the Chairman of the Occasion, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, who regretted that he could not join the club mentioned public speaking and networking as the biggest advantage of being a member of the club, stressing there was no dull moment with the club in their Gyration
“Advantage of public speaking and networking is in Kegit club, and honestly being a member of Kegit there will never be a dull moment. Honestly no matter your mood when the rythm start and you start dancing you will forget any other things that is worrying you.”
Earlier, the Chairman of De Kegite Club Ogun Hemisphere, Emmanuel Oke and the Chairman of Kegit club of Eko Hemisphere, Basit Salaudeen, called on members to maintain unity and not to join any secret cult group in the school as well as concentrating on their studies to achieve their dreams and become better person in future.
