Diop was sworn in on Monday at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, succeeding Dr Omar Alieu Touray of The Gambia, who served as President of the Commission for four years after assuming office in 2022.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Awakan said Nigeria had an abundance of cultural, heritage and tourism stories that remained largely untold, stressing that effectively packaging and telling those stories could attract visitors and investment to destinations across the country.
