June 02, (THEWILL) – Iga Swiatek’s incredible run of form continued as she brushed away Daria Kasatkina’s challenge 6-2 6-1 to advance to the French Open final.

For months, leading up to and after the retirement of former world number one Ashleigh Barty, the Pole has dominated the women’s game, and her victory over Kasatkina was her 34th in a row.

Kasatkina faced an insurmountable task, having won only 11 games in three meetings against Swiatek, and the ruthless Pole extended her outstanding record against the Russian in their semi-final showdown.

Kasatkina had chances in the first set, but paid the price for some big blunders as Swiatek wrapped it up comfortably. Swiatek’s backhand sealed the set, and she appeared to be finding her stride after a jittery start. Fortunately, Kasatkina’s confidence started to dwindle as the second set began, and she was overwhelmed.

An early break of serve placed the world No. 1 in complete control, and she advanced to her second French Open final, where she will attempt to add to the Roland-Garros title she won in 2020. Her victory equaled Serena Williams’ 34-match winning streak in 2013, and she has a chance to break it in a major final.
