March 28, (THEWILL) – Sweden bounced back from their defeat to Belgium with an emphatic 5-0 win over Azerbaijan in their Group F European Championship qualifier.
After having a goal ruled out for offside, Alexander Isak led the charge for the Swedes, with Emil Forsberg opening the scoring with a powerful shot that went past the unsighted Azerbaijan goalkeeper, Emil Balayev.
Sweden’s dominance continued in the second half, with Bahlul Mustafazada scoring an own goal to double their advantage in the 65th minute. Viktor Gyokeres made it 3-0 with a simple tap-in from a Karlstrom pass before substitutes, Jesper Karlsson and Anthony Elanga, added two stunning goals in the closing minutes of the game.
The victory lifts Sweden to third place in the group on three points, behind Austria, who beat Estonia 2-1, and Belgium, who defeated Sweden in their first group game. The Swedes will now look to build on this result as they seek to secure a spot in the competition for next year.
