Suspended DCP Abba Kyari Gets Two Weeks Temporary Bail

May 22, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, two weeks bail after 27 months in detention.

The temporary release is to allow Kyari to attend his mother’s burial rites.

The court has scheduled Friday, May 31, for a decision on Kyari’s bail application related to the drug charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The Police Service Commission (PSC) had suspended Kyari and two senior officers, ACP Sunday Ubua and ASP James Bawa, after they were arrested on February 14, 2022, over an alleged cocaine deal.

The NDLEA had declared Kyari wanted for alleged connections with an international drug cartel.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesman, alleged that Kyari and his team confiscated 25kg of cocaine from drug traffickers arriving from Ethiopia but kept 15kg for themselves.

The police subsequently arrested Kyari, Ubua, Bawa, and John Nuhu for tampering with narcotic exhibits and unprofessional infractions, handing them over to the NDLEA.

The PSC also requested the suspension of two police Inspectors, Simon Agrigba and John Nuhu, by the then Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
