January 18, (THEWILL) – The chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mrs Mimi Adzakpe-Orubibi said she received with deep shock and pain, the sad news of the brutal murder of one of the staff, Mr Sixtus Terfa Akure.
The late Akure, it was gathered until his death was a Senior Inspector of Taxes at BIRS.
“Unconfirmed sources indicated that the late Sixtus was whisked away last night by military personnel in what has become a regular occurrence, and his mangled body was found early hours of today around Aper Aku Estate by the road side.”
The BIRS said she was deeply pained by the death and the circumstances under which the tax officer died.
In a statement personally signed, copy of which was made available to newsmen on Monday, Mrs Orubibi noted that as a service, “we condemn this in the strongest terms possible. We offer our deepest condolences to the immediate family of this young man who paid the supreme price in service to the State.”
She assured all BIRS staff that no stone will be left unturned in getting to the bottom of the circumstances surrounding the matter; assuring that perpetrators will be brought to justice no matter what it takes.
“I have since made a formal report to His Excellency Governor Ortom who has not only offered his condolences but has already given assurances that the state government will never abdicate its responsibility to protect citizens and residents of the state.”
The statement prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, DSP Sewuese Anene, while confirming the incident, said the command has already commenced investigation.
The PPRO, therefore, called for calm, appealing to anyone with useful information that will lead to unravelling the circumstance to volunteer it as it will be treated with utmost secrecy.
