Super Falcons’ Coach “Confident” Of Team’s Chances Over Ivory Coast In AWCON

February 23, (THEWILL) – Coach Randy Waldrum of the senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, has stated that his team will be aiming for victory in today’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier reverse fixture in Ivory Coast.

As THEWILL reported, Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat their opponents 2-0 in the first leg last week in Abuja, and the overall victors of this tie will progress to the AWCON, which will be hosted by Morocco.

Speaking ahead of the tie, the American coach displayed immense belief in the capacity of his side to get a good result: “I am confident, we got the win and we scored two goals, but we all know there are two legs to it.

“So, we have to come out with the attitude to score goals and win the game (today), we can’t sit back and try to protect our two-goal lead. We have to come out aggressively, with an attacking mentality. We have to get the result, nothing else matters.”

Ifeoma Onumonu, who made her debut for the Super Falcons in the first leg and scored both goals, has promised more in the Wednesday fixture. She displayed her determination to do more when she said: “I was so happy I scored two goals, I want to score more goals and for us to have a better team performance.”

“I know I have more in me and I know I can do better. I am ready for the AWCON,” the US-based forward declared.

In the absence of injured star Asisat Oshoala, veteran defender Onome Ebi will once again lead the Super Falcons with the captain’s armband. It will be serving justice for Nigeria to win because it was the Ivorians that kept the African champions out of the Tokyo Olympics.

The reverse fixture kicks off at 5 pm local time.
