July 26, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian duo of Rasheedat Ajibade and Osinachi Ohale, of the Super Falcons, were named to the Team of the Tournament at the just concluded TotalEnergies 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco, by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ohale, a four-time AWCON champion and seasoned player for Nigerian women’s football, was a pillar for the Super Falcons throughout the competition. The 30-year-old Deportivo Alaves defender won Player of the Match honours for her outstanding play in Nigeria’s 1-0 quarter-final victory over Cameroon.

On the other hand, Rasheedat Ajibade of Atletico Madrid was Nigeria’s shining figure in the attack, while Ohale excelled at the back. With her three goals, the 2018 AWCON champion was the joint-highest goal-scorer for the tournament. She scored her maiden goal in the Falcons’ 2-1 loss to Banyana Banyana of South Africa on the opening day of play. The 22-year-old also scored in the 4-0 humiliation of Burundi on matchday three and provided the winning goal in the defeat of Cameroon.

Ohale and Ajibade are included in CAF’s best eleven for the 2022 Championship together with nine other stars from the other three semifinalists. Four players from South Africa, who defeated the host nation of Morocco in the final to claim their first-ever WAFCON trophy, are on the roster.

Three players from the runners-up Morocco and two from the bronze medalists, Zambia, are included in the best XI for Africa.
