Strike: Aviation Unions Set To Shut Down Airports Nationwide

June 2, (THEWILL)- In compliance with the strike action planned by their parent bodies, at the centre, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), four aviation unions, have announced their plan to embark on an industrial action, starting from June 3, 2024.

The unions are the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), the National Union of Air Transport Employees  (NUATE) and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP).

According to a statement dated June 2, 2024, issued by the unions on Friday and signed by NUATE General Secretary, Comrade Ocheme Aba, ATSSSAN Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Frances Akinjole, NAAPE General Secretary, Comrade Olayinka Abioye and ANAP Secretary General, Comrade Abdulrasaq Saidu, the strike will start from 0000hrs of June 3, 2024, but will commence at the International Terminals on 4th of June, 2024.

“Being not oblivious of the fact that many international flights to Nigeria are already airborne, the strike action will commence at International Terminals on the 4th June of 2024”, the unions stated.

They advised their members to take the directive seriously and ensure that all services are withdrawn from the airports indefinitely.
