July 18, (THEWILL) – Strasbourg Football Club has announced the departure of head coach Patrick Vieira after just a single season in charge.
The French Ligue 1 side confirmed the decision on Thursday, bringing an end to Vieira’s three-year contract prematurely.
The former France international joined Strasbourg in July 2023 following his stint at Crystal Palace. Under Vieira’s leadership, Strasbourg finished 13th in Ligue 1 during the 2023/2024 season. Despite the mid-table finish, club president Marc Keller expressed gratitude for Vieira’s contributions, particularly in developing young talent during a transitional period.
Keller stated: “We would like to express our gratitude and thank Patrick for the work he has accomplished during this first phase of the project and we wish him much success in the future. He will always be welcome at the club.”
The decision comes following Strasbourg’s takeover by BlueCo, the consortium that owns Chelsea Football Club, in 2023. The club has announced that a new coach will be appointed soon, with the 2024/2025 Ligue 1 season set to begin on the weekend of August 17-18.
