July 07, (THEWILL) – English forward Raheem Sterling has informed Manchester City that he wants to quit the team and has reached a personal agreement with Chelsea.
The English Premier League champions had recently offered the England international an offer to extend his contract on his previous deal at City, which expires in the summer.
But, Sterling has informed the English champions that he does not want to extend the contract and would wish to depart this summer.
Similar to Gabriel Jesus, who moved to Arsenal this week, City warned Sterling that they would sell him this summer if he did not agree to terms. Now, the Premier League champions are prepared to approve a transfer to Chelsea for the striker.
The move will be ideal for Sterling as it keeps him in the EPL and presents him with the opportunity to challenge for places in the starting XI especially with the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. For Chelsea, it may be a chance to have options with the possible exit of Hakim Ziyech.
