BEVERLY HILLS, May 27, (THEWILL) – With the conclusion of the football season across Europe, player mobility has picked up as teams confirm departures until the transfer window opens next month. English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday confirmed the departures of Danny Rose and Paulo Gazzaniga from the north London outfit.

As a £1m signing from Leeds United in 2007, Rose became a regular in the Spurs team under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is now in talks over a sensational return to the club as manager, after various loan spells away from the capital and made the most of the opportunity for his best periods in a Spurs shirt and for memories that the club’s fans will cherish.

But, things changed in the 2019/2020 season when he was in and out of the team, as he struggled to earn a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI so much that the left-back joined Newcastle United on loan in January.

He tried for a permanent move away from Spurs last summer but had to settle to remain at the club as he was unsuccessful in the transfer market. It was a tough period for Rose as did not play a single minute for the first team after Mourinho elected not to name him in either his Premier League or Europa League squad for the season.

After 214 appearances for Tottenham and the conclusion of his contract with the Lilywhites, the 30-year-old will leave on a free transfer.

Likewise, four years after joining Spurs, Gazzaniga also exits with his contract coming to an end. He arrived from Southampton in 2017, brought in by Pochettino, and made 37 first-team appearances before being sent out on loan to Spanish side Elche for the second half of the current campaign to get some extra play minutes.

Gazzaniga ended the season with a paltry eight starts for the La Liga side helping to see the team avoid the drop by two points.

However, as the Spurs management revealed, Rose and Gazzaniga will be joined in their exits by a number of Tottenham’s development squad players as their contracts have ended. These include nine others like Enock Asante, Chay Cooper, Keenan Ferguson, George Marsh, Rodel Richards, Jack Roles, Aaron Skinner, Kazaiah Sterling and Shilow Tracey who leave to new places for next season.

Of their number, Marsh made one first-team appearance for the club in their FA Cup third-round win over Tranmere Rovers in January 2019, while Sterling played for the first team in both the Champions League and FA Cup competitions.

Spurs also confirmed that U18s duo Eddie Carrington and Tarrelle Whittaker have also moved on following the conclusion of their scholarships.
