March 17, (THEWILL)- Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, met with the newly appointed Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu, in Abuja this week.
The parley was to signal closer ties between the federal and state governments on sports development and propel Nigerian sports to new heights.
Senator Enoh congratulated Fatodu on his appointment, praising Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sports development in Lagos State. He emphasised Lagos’s position as the “powerhouse of sports” in Nigeria and pledged the federal government’s full support in collaborating with the state on sports initiatives.
For his part, Fatodu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and outlined Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to make Lagos a top sporting hub. He highlighted efforts by the Lagos State Sports Commission to nurture athletes and talents through a robust sporting ecosystem aimed at making Nigeria the sports capital of Africa.
The Minister was particularly impressed by the Commission’s Lagos STARS (Sports Talents & Athlete Redefining Success) grassroots talent identification and development programme. Senator Enoh called it a “blueprint for replicating sporting excellence across the nation.”
Both officials expressed excitement over the new era of cooperation between the federal and Lagos State governments on sports development for the benefit of Nigerian athletes.
