August 28, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich’s unblemished start to the Bundesliga season came to an end when Borussia Monchengladbach held them to a tough 1-1 draw at home helped by their goalkeepers’ exploits.
The champions had previously been on fire in 2022–23, scoring 15 goals across three victories, but on Saturday, Gladbach goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, put up a strong fight against them.
The first two goals scored by Sadio Mane for Julian Nagelsmann’s team in the first half were ruled off before Marcus Thuram capitalised on Dayot Upamecano’s error to appear to have won the match for the visitors.

In the second half, Bayern tried everything at Gladbach, with Sommer repelling the majority of it, until a strong Leroy Sane attempt stole a point, the absolute minimum the hosts deserved but sufficient to return them to the top of the league. In total, Sommer made an amazing 19 saves.
The next time out, Sommer and his teammates will attempt to extend a perfect home record against Mainz after he broke the Bundesliga record for most saves in a game. For Bayern, they will need to get ready for their DFB-Pokal first round match on Wednesday.
