June 11, (THEWILL) – Benjamin Sesko, the highly sought-after Slovenian striker, has reached a gentleman’s agreement with RB Leipzig to facilitate his departure from the club in the summer of 2025. The 21-year-old ended the 2023/2024 season in scintillating form, netting 18 goals across all competitions for the Bundesliga side.

Despite interest from English Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, Sesko opted to extend his contract with Leipzig until 2029. However, the new deal does not include a formal release clause. Instead, Sesko has secured a gentleman’s agreement paving the way for a potential move next summer.

The Slovenia international sought clarity on his future before the Euro 2024 tournament. Leipzig has agreed to offer Sesko a wage packet close to what he could have earned in the EPL, providing him with financial incentives while allowing him to settle at the club for another season.

This development may come as a boost to Chelsea and Manchester United, who felt they were trailing behind Arsenal in the race for Sesko’s signature this summer. The Gunners were confident of being the frontrunners but knew convincing the striker to leave Leipzig immediately would be a challenge. A move always appeared likely to be delayed until next summer.

With UEFA Champions League qualification a priority, Chelsea and United will hope to boost their appeal to Sesko and other targets by notching a top-four finish next season. The two clubs are also undergoing transitional periods off the field, aiming to establish stability and success by the summer of 2025 when Sesko could become available.
