Scores Killed, Abducted As Bandits Attack Katsina Communities

June 10, (THEWILL)- Suspected bandits have attacked several communities in Kankara Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, killing at least fifty people and leaving many others with severe injuries.

The attacks, which occurred late Sunday night into the early hours of Monday morning, also saw several residents of the affected communities abducted by the armed bandits.

A source familiar with the incident told newsmen on Monday, that more than 50 people, including women and children, were killed during the attacks.

“It is one of the saddest days for the people of the affected communities in Kankara. The government needs to really do something for a lasting solution to these security challenges,” the source said, adding that scores of community members, including women and children, were abducted and whisked away into the forest by gunmen.

While the injured are receiving treatment at the hospital, a headcount is currently ongoing by residents of the affected communities to determine how many people have been abducted.

Authorities in Katsina have not issued any statement on the incident. Spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, did not immediately respond to an inquiry at the time of filing this report.
