October 21, (THEWILL) – Mohamed Salah scored both goals as Liverpool beat 10-man Everton 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday, to continue their recent derby dominance over their Merseyside rivals.
The Egyptian became the first Reds player since Peter Beardsley in 1991 to net in the first four league games at Anfield, taking his tally to 200 league goals overall.
The contest effectively ended on 37 minutes when Everton’s Ashley Young received a second yellow card for bringing down Luis Diaz. Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage in the second half with Salah converting a 75th-minute penalty after Michael Keane handled. He then wrapped up the win deep in stoppage time after a counter-attack.
It was Liverpool’s sixth straight league win over Everton, which means the away side are still without an Anfield victory since 1999. Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher went closest for the visitors but headed straight at Alisson early on. The hosts enjoyed the lion’s share of chances but initially lacked sharpness before Salah intervened.
The win lifts Liverpool temporarily to the EPL summit while Everton are in 16th, hovering just above the relegation zone after a sixth defeat of the campaign. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to see his team win again after their 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion before the break.
