April 17, (THEWILL) – Liverpool stomped to an emphatic 6-1 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday, as Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah each scored twice in their English Premier League tie.
Jurgen Klopp’s team had not enjoyed a win in any competition since beating Manchester United on March 5, but ended their five-game winless streak with a resounding triumph against the relegation-threatened hosts.
After a slow start, Liverpool surged ahead with a quickfire double in the first half. Cody Gakpo and Salah both found the back of the net, before Luis Sinisterra pulled one back for Leeds early in the second half.
However, any hopes of a dramatic comeback were quickly quashed by Jota, who scored twice to complete his brace, either side of Salah’s second goal, before Darwin Nunez added a late sixth.
Klopp’s charges will host another relegation-threatened EPL side Nottingham Forest in their next match on Saturday, while Leeds United will visit Fulham in their next fixture on the same day.
