October 21, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan reclaimed second place in Serie A with a narrow 1-0 victory over AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. The win ended Roma’s chance to score in 25 consecutive league matches at home. Inter dominated possession early, with Marcus Thuram testing Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar. Yann Sommer had a nervous moment for Inter when he spilled Lorenzo Pellegrini’s shot onto the post.

Injuries disrupted Inter’s rhythm, with Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Francesco Acerbi both substituted in the first half. Despite these setbacks, Inter remained dangerous, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan hitting the crossbar. Roma struggled to create meaningful chances, often squandering opportunities in the final third.

The deadlock was broken on the hour mark when Lautaro Martínez capitalised on a defensive error. Nicola Zalewski lost possession, and although Davide Frattesi’s pass went astray, Zeki Çelik’s heavy touch allowed Martínez to score from just inside the box. Roma’s attempts to equalise proved futile, with striker Artem Dovbyk missing a clear opportunity.

Inter could have extended their lead, but Svilar made impressive saves to deny Denzel Dumfries and Thuram. The result extends Roma’s poor run against Inter, with just one win in their last 16 encounters. Both teams now turn their attention to European competitions, with Roma facing Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Europa League and Inter travelling to Young Boys for a UEFA Champions League fixture.

This victory strengthens Inter’s position in Serie A as they continue to challenge for the title. Roma, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly to maintain their European aspirations and improve their league standing.
