January 31, (THEWILL) – Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his alleged involvement in the burning of the State House of Assembly.
The court also ordered the arrest of five other persons, including Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict, Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri and Chibuike Peter, a.k.a Rambo, who were accused of complicity in the alleged invasion, vandalization and burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.
The order followed an ex-parte application brought before the court by the Inspector General of Police pursuant to sections 37, 113, 114, 84 and 184 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and section 35 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as section 32 of the Police Act 2020.
Moving the application on behalf of the IGP on Wednesday, DCP Simon Lough (SAN) told the court that the six defendants are currently at large.
He alleged that the defendants were involved in conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder and murder of a Superintendent of Police, SP Bako Agbashim, and five other police informants in Rivers State, including Charles Osu, Ogbonna Eja, Idaowuka Felix, Paul Victor Chibuogu and Saturday Edi.
Ruling on the application, Justice Nwite ordered the arrest, investigation and trial of Ehie and the other five defendants.
