BEVERLY HILLS, January 06, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has set up a military initiative against the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen.
According to a statement by Defence Headquarters, announced on Friday, the operation is code-named: Operation Accord.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, broke the news to journalists in Warri, Delta State, after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered that decisive measures be taken to stop the recurring violence in the area.
Abubakar revealed that the initiative is expected to deal with the menace of herdsmen who have been on the rampage in several states of the federation, killing people at will.
“The issue of criminal herdsmen killings will be a thing of the past once the operation kicks off,” he said.
“We have over 13 operations that are going on in the country. We are moving up from the Northeast which we have just accomplished. The armed forces will not rest until we rescue all the captives (from Boko Haram).
“The armed forces are where they are to provide security and enabling environment to enable businesses thrive.
“The presence of soldiers is to achieve the mandate given to it by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The insinuations are from those who see our presence as an impediment to their activities. We should not in any way condone any group that will cause problem economically or politically in this country.”
