November 30, (THEWILL) – A bill seeking to establish the Nigeria Postal Commission (NPC) to encourage local and foreign investments in the Nigerian postal service industry has been approved by the House of Representatives.
The report of the bill presented by the House Committee on Telecommunications was considered clause by clause and adopted at the Committee of the Whole on Tuesday.
Titled, “a Bill for an Act to Repeal the Nigerian Postal Service Act, Cap. N127, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Establish the Nigeria Postal Commission to make Comprehensive Provisions for the Development and Regulation of Postal Services; and for Related Matters (HB.1337)”, was sponsored by Hon Akeem Adeyemi.
Speaking on the bill, Adeyemi said there is a need to upgrade NIPOST in line with international best practices.
“It was on this note that ‘A Bill for an Act to Repeal the Nigerian Postal Service Act CAP N127 LFN, 2004 and establish the Nigeria Postal Commission to make comprehensive provisions for the development and regulation of postal service; and for other related matters,” he said.
