April 06, (THEWILL) – In a historic moment for African soccer, Nigeria’s Remo Stars FC made their debut appearance at the Generation Adidas Cup.
The team impressed with their performance, finishing second in their group and advancing to the Round of 16, where they were eliminated after a tense penalty shootout with Philadelphia Union.
Remo Stars’ journey included a standout 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers, which was broadcast globally via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Despite their exit from the competition, coach Ajibolade Olumide highlighted the off-field opportunities the tournament provided for his players, including the chance to mingle with stars from Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Arsenal.
Olumide also emphasised the tournament’s role in player development and potential for future opportunities. He said: “I know there are hundreds of scouts and agents and recruiters here. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know the next step forward is going to be beautiful for the boys. Anyone who’s picked or selected or makes the net move from here, it’s going to be a life-changing moment for him.”
The 2023 Generation Adidas Cup will conclude with Under-15 and Under-17 finals and third-place matches on Sunday, all of which will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
