July 04, (THEWILL) – A major relief has come the way of energy consumers as the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) is set to deploy 20,000 free meters to unmetered customers in its franchise area.
The Head of Corporate Communications of the PHED, Olubukola Ilevbare, who disclosed this in a statement, said the meters will be exclusively deployed to energy consumers in the Band A category.
The decision, she said, followed a meeting at the company’s headquarters in Port Harcourt. She described the decision as good news, as the 20,000 meters will be deployed at no cost to the beneficiaries.
She added that the idea behind the development was to close the metering gap and ensure proper energy accounting in the company’s franchise areas.
“We bring you good news. PHED has set aside 20,000 prepaid meters for its unmetered customers on its Band A Feeders.
“This is aimed at closing the metering gap and ensuring proper energy accounting.
“These meters are free and are to be installed at no cost to the customer,” she said.
The PHED distributes electricity to four states in Nigeria, namely Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers states.
