SAN FRANCISCO, December 03, (THEWILL) – Jose Mourinho has shown himself to be pleased with setting records. It gives him the ammunition to deploy in his mind games against other teams and he applies them with the skills of a master at the height of his craft. That is why Tottenham’s victory over Leeds on Saturday carried extra significance for the manager, Mourinho.

Not only will he be surely pleased with the entire masterful team performance that secured a clean sheet, a three-goal win and third place climb up the Premier League standings but it gave evidence that Spurs could actually kill off a game, which they appeared afraid of doing previously. Then, Mourinho saw his attacker Son reach his centurion status with his 100th goal for the club.

That was not all the record at hand for the satiation of Mourinho’s thirst. The devastatingly blistering form of the front duo of Harry Kane and Son was in full display again. It meant that when Kane provided the assist for Son to score Spurs’ second goal, Kane moved into double figures and became the first player to reach double figures for both goals, the 10 he has scored, and assists, ten in number, in the top five European leagues this season.

If that was all, it would have been plenty enough to conclude that Mourinho’s new year was beginning on a definitely happy note. Yet, there was more and it was those two again. Kane and Son have now combined for 13 goals in the EPL this season. It is record-breaking because no duo has ever combined for more in a single campaign in the competition.

And, there are still 21 matches to be played. If their efficient and clinical form in front of goal continues, and there is nothing to say why it will not, then they will most definitely stretch the record beyond reach with the glorious understanding they have worked out of their partnership in the attack line of the Whites.

Their Saturday fixture showed nothing of the fact that they were winless in four consecutive games that preceded the victory over Leeds. Nothing of their movement and counterattacking game plan gave signs of that unfortunate streak. More than anything else, they jettisoned the atypical Mourinho’s defensive-minded standard of parking the bus.

Only tainted by the red card to defender Matt Doherty for a second bookable offense, the whole game was pleasing to see for Spurs fans. Most especially for Mourinho, who now has more mental firepower to unleash on the minds of those he must meet on the field of play.
