March 12, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid has confirmed its willingness to appear at any trial resulting from the complaint filed against Barcelona by Spanish prosecutors.
The complaint arose from allegations that Barca paid €1.4 million to the company of Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees, between 2016 and 2018. Negreira’s company, DASNIL 95 SL, is said to have produced written reports and DVD assessments of referees ahead of games.
The complaint filed against Barcelona by Spanish prosecutors has named two of the club’s former presidents, Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as executives Albert Soler and Oscar Grau. The allegations include corruption in sports and date back to 2001, with the total amount of alleged payments exceeding €7 million.
The saga may ultimately be resolved in court, although it is not yet clear if this will be the case. Real Madrid’s board of directors met recently and expressed their “utmost concern” about the seriousness of the allegations. In a statement, the club reiterated its confidence in the legal system and said it would appear at the trial when the judge opens it up to the affected parties.
Barcelona’s current president, Joan Laporta, has attempted to reassure fans on Twitter, saying that the club is innocent of the accusations and that many will be forced to rectify their actions.
