Real Madrid Prepare For Mbappe Arrival With Shirt Number

November 04, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe’s long-awaited transfer to Real Madrid looks set to finally happen next summer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires. The 23-year-old French striker has rejected PSG’s attempts to extend his current deal, paving the way for a free transfer to the Spanish giants.

Reports in Spain this week suggest Real Madrid have already picked out Mbappe’s shirt number for when he joins ahead of the 2024/2025 season. Spanish outlet El Chiringuito claims Los Blancos have assigned him the number 10 shirt, currently worn by Luka Modric whose own contract is up next summer.

The 37-year-old Modric has voiced discontent at his lack of playing time so far this campaign, with rumours he could move to MLS side Inter Miami. If true, it seems the Croatian midfielder’s glorious decade at the Bernabeu is coming to an end.

Mbappe currently wears number 7 for PSG but this is taken at Madrid by Vinicius Junior, who recently renewed his deal. Mbappe wears number 10 for France and has previously worn 29 at Monaco and early in his PSG career.

Madrid legends like Luis Figo, Wesley Sneijder and Michael Laudrup have worn the number 10 shirt. Securing Mbappe’s signature has been a long-term goal of Florentino Perez and it finally looks set to come to fruition next year.
