October 17, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid could welcome David Alaba back from injury this weekend when they travel to face Sevilla in La Liga. The Austrian defender has missed Madrid’s last three games after being forced off early against Las Palmas last month with a groin problem.
Alaba’s absence has been felt by Los Blancos, who have had to cope with the long-term loss of Eder Militao as well. However, the 31-year-old delivered a boost by returning to full training on Monday, suggesting he is in contention to feature on Saturday.
Alaba came through the training session with no issues. He now has four more days to build fitness before the Sevilla clash, followed by the season’s first El Clasico away against Barcelona next week. Alaba had played every minute prior to injury this term.
With captain Nacho still suspended, Alaba’s return would ease Madrid’s defensive worries. Aurelien Tchouameni, naturally a midfielder, had to fill in at centre-back against Osasuna, with both senior defenders sidelined.
Sevilla have endured a poor start domestically and sit just one place above the relegation zone. Yet, Alaba’s experience could prove invaluable if he can overcome his groin trouble in time.
