November 07, (THEWILL) – The draw for the round of 16 of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League has thrown up very tough encounters with the most anticipated being pitting reigning champion Real Madrid against Liverpool.
It is a rematch of Madrid’s tight 1-0 victory in the 2022 UCL final earlier this year. Both teams also competed in the 2018 championship game, which Real Madrid won 3-1.
Another exciting and competitive match of the draw is the fixture between Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain and their attacking trident of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi. The French champions ran the risk of receiving a tough draw by dropping out of first place on the final matchday of the group round and that was what they got in the Bavarian giants.
The matchup between Tottenham Hotspur and Italian champions AC Milan and London rivals Chelsea and Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund will see American forward Christian Pulisic return to play against his previous team. English Premier League champions Manchester City will play German team, RB Leipzig, in one of the less competitive but unpredictable matches.
The dates of the first legs of the last 16 matches are February 14–15–21–22, and the dates of the second legs are March 7–8–14–15. On June 10, 2023, the final will be held at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
